promoting what is worth promotion..

hey guys.. nothing really happened during the last few days.. i don’t even have anything to tell you about the weekend.. however.. i was really busy the last few days getting my software running for labeling laughter in natural dialogs. seems to work somehow actually.. however it needs some postprocessing at the moment to prune it. furthermore.. i now switched from a mainly-romaji written japanese textbook to a fully hiragana, katakana, kanji one. fortunately the kanji are equipped with hiragana translation, which makes it easier to read since some kanjis have like seven different possibilities to read them.. awesome!

anyway.. to get to the headline of this post! i talked with nick and we both agree, that we need novel unbiased input devices for labelers, speech synthesis, and stress inducing games! yes i am talking about stylus driven interfaces.. like the princeton tablet! no ok i am just kidding! we need the wiimote! and with it we need more motej! motej is just simply perfect! slim, easy to use and with just enough demos to understand the thing without documentation ;)

so lets do it: USE THE MOTEJ LIBRARY OF VOLKER!

and now to claim what i am planning at the moment.. i try to write a software that helps you learning your japanese vocabulary…

imagination time: you sit in front of your computer in a comfy position far away from your keyboard or mouse. you look at your screen and a word either kanji, hiragana, katakana or german translation is displayed. press B to switch the display from displayed language to translation. press A to switch from too difficult kanji to hiragana or even romaji.. but if you need them.. you suck!

now we guessed the vocabulary correctly.. swing the mote to the right and the next vocabulary will be displayed. if you guessed wrong.. the clue comes into account.. swing the mote upwards to increase an internal value that simply increases the probability with which the word will be displayed the next time. the idea is that easy vocabulary does not need to be displayed every 5 times… but difficult ones should.. if you think you see a vocabulary too often.. swing the mote downwards to decrease the probability.. isn’t that like great?!

so .. volker.. i hope i can ask you questions if necessary and guido!? do you want to participate as well? we should think about making money out of that ;) no seriously we just need to work together because of vocabulary lists etc. probably we should also integrate difficulty levels so that beginners are not tortured with kanji or something like that?! like a test at the end of a lesson or session that determines if you are already able to advance to the next level. i think this idea is pretty brilliant ;)

ok guys.. see you..

ps: next week is 富士山 (fuji-san) time! the week after that.. hiroshima, himeji etc. and after that i guess i will welcome matthias!

    Hi Stefan,

of course I am willing to help as best as I can.
Just shoot your questions at the motej users list (or directly in my direction).

Guido, I can give a short introduction speech/presentation at Ulm University if you like. Might be of interest for some of your students, too.

It’s in the trunk: motej just got support for the balance board, the classic controller and the full reporting mode of the IR camera. I don’t know how this might enhance your learning experience, but you’ll figure it out eventually :)
