living in japan: office edition

my desk

yeah.. this is my desk in the office. you can see that even though i have been here for only two weeks now the chaos’ force to maximal entropy me drove me into letting it look like my desk in ulm. but maybe i just allowed myself to fit into the surrounding landscape like a chameleon, because if you look at the other pictures my desk doesn’t look that messy after all…

nick\'s desk

on this picture you see nicks desk and his about 20 cameras pointing at him catching his face, body gestures, and so on. yes he is if he want’s always part of his recordings and experiments. what a beautiful world where you are being cctved every second. great. furthermore, nick also has a surveillance camera pointing in my direction (i hope it is off.. so he doesn’t record me sleeping, which would also be a wonderful research topic) and one recording the street. insane!

overview

this foto and the next one should give a little overview of the office and its gadgets that are available here. everything i have ever thought of can be found in here. like dat-recorders, microphones of all kind, lots of racks including mixers, amplifiers etc. just cool.

rack

the only problem i have is that this office is also a server room.. with about 10 continuously running machines. leading to a sound level of a starting jet and a temperature close to the one outside, even though we have a running air conditioning at the other end of the room :(

but nonetheless this is a wonderful, creative atmosphere.. especially because it really feels like a lab not like a common office. research is being done here, not paper work.

so people, get down to business and get your hands dirty!
